Creativity and a Winner!

To live a creative life....
We have a winner from Monday's post:
Kitty A.

"Love your new blog and the card is super great! My home is beige and neutrals because I crave the light feel and calmness it gives. Shopping in a mall, looking on Pinterest, and seeing your creations gives me tons of creative sparks.. For instance, now I "need" the wonderful products you showcased today. Thanks!"

Kitty, thank you for your comment on what helps you get the creativity flowing.... I have a package of goodies ready for you. Email me at stampsnsmiles@gmail.com to let me know what mailbox they need to arrive at.

And I feel like a winner also!
Did you see that cute bow on the framed piece above? I came away from our last team meeting with that sweet framed saying, along with the stamped candle holders! Each month we have a hand-crafted door prize and they are always fun to look forward to. Would you like to be part of a team also? Check out my "Why Join My Team" page!

So back to the bow.... it's so easy to create and thank you Becky for the idea and the wonderful new addition to my stamping room.

Here's one I created last evening.

And here's the how-to:

Punch out four ovals - mine were using the Extra-Large Oval Punch, but any size will do.

Fold two of them in half and adhere using a Glue Dot.
Cut a "V" from the remaining two as shown.

Adhere the two sides of the bow as shown using Glue Dots. Cut a 1/4" strip for the center.

Adhere together using Glue Dots... cute, cute!

Modern Medley for You!

So do you love black and white (or vanilla) as much as I do?
Oh, I could have a closet full of it.... every time I shop my eye is drawn to black and white. I have to force myself to not add another black and white pattern to my closet.

So I made a card instead, lol! It is much quicker and less expensive than adding to the wardrobe... and it doesn't even need a hanger!

A simple card made stunning by the choice of papers. Modern Medley is a gorgeous selection of Basic Black and Very Vanilla Designer Series Paper. They mix and match like nobody's business - I mean, you seriously cannot go wrong, and I like that! And the stamp set.... one of my favorite in the new catalog - Chalk Talk!

And this bow... how cute is it?
The idea is borrowed from Becky Robert's .... watch for tomorrow's post and I'll share a couple of sweet gifts I received this week - one that sports this bow along with the how-to and Monday's winner!

My Paper Pumpkin!

My Paper Pumpkin .... do you recognize it?

Each month subscribers to My Paper Pumpkin receive a delightful, surprise box  of goodies from Stampin' Up! This month it contained four cards with envelopes, three stamps, a Stampin' Spot and a few embellishments along with an idea for one card.

My goal, for my customers, is to take that set and create two or three projects that use the supplies in a way they hadn't thought of (hopefully!) Just a little out of the box, if you will.
I include it as a PDF tutorial with their purchase.
Kinda fun and just a little extra.

I'll be happy to admit that this one stumped me a bit, as the cards are pre-stamped with hexagons as shown above. But, I got my little creative thinking cap on and decided to use mostly the stamps in some fun ways. Here we go!

Don't you love the new Smoky Slate? This time embossed with Whisper White.

I used the punched out hexagons that were included in the kit to create a "Flower Garden" pattern.
Hexagons always make me thinking of this beautiful quilt pattern.

Here it is on a queen size "Flower Garden" quilt that I hand pieced quite a number of years ago in California. Piece by piece.... hundreds of them, all by hand. What a relaxing way to while away, oh, about a thousand hours or so, lol!

To discover more about this creative program from Stampin' Up! visit: mypaperpumpkin.com
And, to receive your free PDF tutorial each month, please choose me, Penny Smiley, Star, ID as your demonstrator during checkout. I look forward to helping you create next month.

A Brand New Look!

So.... how do you like it? I'm back with a brand new look to my blog ... so no, you're on the right page just in time for a whole new feel. And an enormous thank you to my good friend, Ben, for your wonderful, patient, good natured expertise.

I just needed some white in my life, how about you? Oh, I could easily have white and cream for my entire home. I really am kind of a shabby chic gal and I don't mind one bit if it's a bit dated. I happen to love it! And I just may go back to that - starting with my blog which is my creative outlet.

Do you have a creative outlet? I'd love if you'd share - just leave a comment for us to enjoy. Tell us a little about your creativity and what keeps the ideas and spark flowing.  I will choose one person to receive a fun bundle of goodies - think tags and bags!
When life gets busy, it helps my creativity if I have wide open spaces and white, white, white. Plus any card goes well on white, right?

So now, on to the card. Is this so cool or what?

I love the new Eastern Elegance Designer Series Paper with it's Smoky Slate and Crushed Curry on Whisper White.
It's just yummy!
Actually I think I'd like to design an outfit around this. How about the print for a fun skirt, silver shoes, a Crushed Curry sweater and a Whisper White tank top. Shoot - I bet I could get away with my Summer Starfruit sandals. Nah, on second thought, I really, really need a pair of silver sandals. Maybe I could get it all pulled together in time for the Stampin' Up! convention.... hmmm.

Here's a quick outline of how I created it. Kind of a Ten Minute Tuesday - on a Saturday! I missed posting last week, so thought I better make it up to you all.
The strips are 1" and 3/4" wide.

And here some of the products I used. I love them all!

Now, if you need any of these, please shop here!

Happy Birthday Chris!

Our amazing kids are growing up....
Our son, Chris, turns 22 today. Where does the time go?
I wish I could grab back some of those growing up times again, but love who he is today - his talent, his fun personality, his kindness and the unique spot he fills in the universe.
Love you so much, son, and look forward to celebrating Thursday night with sushi!

I made him a little notebook. Real simple - just from card stock and computer paper. I created this one to finish up at 3-1/2" x 5" but you can make it any size you like. Just cut the computer paper and card stock twice the width you want x the length. Fold in half, staple, stamp, embellish and you're done. I would recommend stamping the cover before assembling and make sure you stamp a bit on the pages inside!

I created this card for my best friend's mom who recently lost her brother. Unexpected losses can hit pretty hard.

Some of Everything Please!

Soho Subway Designer Series Paper..... love, love it!
It's chock full of amazing designs, subway art, flowers,
wood grain, graph paper - something for every occasion.
And what's very cool, is that it can be purchased as part of a product share called "Some of Everything, Please!" which I'm offering to my customers and demos alike.

I began with a piece of Soho Subway DSP, 4-1/8" x 5-3/8" and took a diagonal slice out of it just large enough to accommodate my sentiment - which I also love!
I popped it up with Dimensionals so the sentiment is sitting down in the groove.

With pencil I lightly traced the area I had to work with onto Early Espresso card stock. I embossed  the sentiment with White Stampin' Emboss Powder and added a little arrow clip using Glue Dots.

Just look at all of these - can you say amazing!  They're absolutely gorgeous.... and so are all the other new Designer Series Papers! So I have a special offer for you.

How would you like a sampling of all the brand new Designer Series Papers?
That's right - 78 pieces of neatly packaged 6" x 6" pieces of the latest greatest. Oh, there are buttons, embellishments and ribbon, too!
